Bend It Like Bengal

Big Dance Bend It Like Bengal was based on the popular football-themed touring work Bend It....(2008). The project provided an opportunity for boys to create dance work which celebrated, in the theme of football, a popular part of male culture in the UK.

The workshops included:

  • an introduction to basic Bharatanatyam vocabulary;
  • short phrases adapted from the Bend It... repertory;
  • a series of creative exercises, allowing students to create dance phrases using the vocabulary acquired in the dance exercises;
  • a final curtain-raiser presentation including material devised and performed by members of the community group.

Bend It Like Bengal provided a high-quality, open access dance creation and performance opportunity and positive learning activity for boys and young men.
